It’s not easy, choosing women’s’ clothes that are both on trend and that suit your style and figure. With so many different body shapes, knowing what suits you and what doesn’t can mean the difference between looking fabulous in this season’s fashions and otherwise. While George at ASDA’s range of women’s clothes is extensive, you can’t just buy things willy-nilly.
Hourglass
Ah, the enviable hourglass silhouette that people without curves would kill for. With curves in the right places (i.e. the bust and the hips), and with a waist that can barely be called a waist in the middle, any hourglass lady should be proud of her fabulous figure. While most clothes would suit the shape, a women with an hourglass silhouette should take the opportunity to emphasise her curves further – think structured jackets and pencil skirts.
Apple
Define the traditional apple figure with some ideally placed accessories. While a typical apple figure consists of a rounded stomach and slim legs, there’s no reason why you can’t flaunt your shape. Add a waist-cinching belt for further definition and pick out your favourite bits, such as a V neck to show off your bust.
Pear
A typical pear figure consists of hips wider than the shoulders, and as a classic shape, you needn’t worry about dressing it. Skim past the hips with a loose fitting maxi dress with halterneck detail to show off your beautiful shoulders. A wraparound dress which cinches the waist would also help to flaunt your fabulous waist – make the most of it!
Slender
Larger ladies may envy the super slim women, but those who are slender often wish to have the curves, hips and bust of others. The slender shape can often feel a little boyish – with no curves to flaunt, it can feel a little difficult to dress up.
Add femininity wherever possible, with pretty clothes that add the illusion of curves to your body shape. The Peplum style adds shape around the hips to make it seem like you have curves, while cowl necklines won’t draw attention to your bust which may make you feel a little self-confident.
Athletic
Similar to the slender shape, many athletic builds won’t mean curves but your slim and toned bod does mean you could get away with most styles. Avoid the feeling of androgyny by wearing pretty, girly styles and show off your fabulous legs when you have the opportunity.
A key piece to have in your wardrobe is the skinny jean. Dressed up, or down, these fabulous jeans are an absolute must for anyone who has the legs to flaunt them.
Inverted Triangle
Don’t feel like you need to hide your bust behind oversized t-shirts and chunky cardigans – if you have it, show it off! You need to try and balance your shoulders if you have an inverted triangle body shape – wide legged trousers are ideal.
Once you know your body shape and you’re aware of what looks good and what doesn’t, you’ll be able to sail into autumn no problem.
