Leonardo DiCaprio and Shutter Island

February 17, 2010

Shutter Island comes out this week based on the Dennis Lahane novel. I have always loved Leo. I think he is one of the greatest actor of his generation. Although Leo remains fairly private now, he was once a little bit of a wild one. In case you don’t remember, he got his start on “Growing Pains.” Here are some fabulous pics of Leo and some trivia on the film coming out this Friday. Tell me what you think once you see it!

–Before settling on Mark Ruffalo for the role of Chuck Aule, Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese also considered Robert Downey Jr. and Josh Brolin.

–This was originally commissioned as a directing vehicle for Wolfgang Petersen. However, there were considerable modifications made to Dennis Lehane’s novel in order to create a more action-driven blockbuster.

–Many parts were filmed in the old Massachusetts state mental hospital in Medfield, MA.

–Of the two actors who play the chief wardens of Shutter Island, Ted Levine portrayed serial killer Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs (1991) and John Carroll Lynch played a suspected serial killer in Zodiac (2007).

–Shortly (August 2009) before its original release in October 2009, the movie was pushed back to February 2010.

–In this film, Leonardo DiCaprio’s character is seasick. Previously, DiCaprio starred in Titanic (1997), most of which is set on a ship.

–After involuntarily pushing back the release date of this film to February for financial reasons, they intentionally set the release date to the same day of The Silence of the Lambs (1991) in hope that it could walk home with several Oscars.

I totally agree with , he is such a talented and amazing actor. I remember him The Basketball Diaries, which the crtics slammed, but I thought it was a stellar performance from DiCaprio. He hardly seems to age too. Won’t be able to see this movie for a few months yet.

I never really cared for Leo until I saw The Departed. Now I love him! But I won’t be going to see this movie. Too scary for me!

I’ve been intrigued by that movie. ๐Ÿ™‚ I actually started working on my book on Monday again, well sort of. With the day off, I ‘worked’ from 8-6 as if I really worked from home, started with blogging, then doing agent research, and finally reread everything I had written, and just printed off sample synopses online to begin mine. I’m finally motivated to get going again! It’s so hard to juggle time. Think I may try to do a writing vacation this year… wouldn’t that be fun. Hope you stick with it! You never know what may develop. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve never been a HUGE fan of Leo but he’s always been great in every role he’s played and I think he’ll do well in this movie.

I am SO glad that this is FINALLY coming out because I feel like I’ve been watching previews for this for years haha

I can’t wait for Saturday morning because my mom & I are going to see this!! I’m a huge Martin Scorcesse fan!! Seriously Leonardo Dicaprio just gets hotter & hotter as he’s getting older.

That’s hilarious that the character is seasick, how ironic for him! hehe.
