For Day 3 of the series, I have asked my special friend Julie from Brown Eyed Belle to tell us about her favorite vintage place.
If you aren’t familiar with Julie’s adorable blog, you must rush…go right now…over to check her out. She has become one of my greatest blogger friends! Not only is she totally adorable, but her posts are so much fun and genuine. Tell her I sent you!
Here is her post:
“Hello Blonde Episode lovers! Julie from Brown Eyed Belle here doing a little vintage throwback for my sweet lady, Kori. I was so excited when she contacted me last week to guest post for her, especially considering she wanted a vintage-inspired post. How fabulous is that?! So, let’s get to it shall we?
The one vintage place that I would love to visit is the Moulin Rouge in Paris! You know the Moulin Rouge, right? The cabaret with the big red windmill? Here are a few facts about the famous night spot:
-Cabaret built in 1889 by Joseph Oller
-Located in the Paris Red-Light District
-Birthplace of the modern form of the can-can dance
-Location of inspiration for the famous painter Toulouse-Lautrec
-Notable performers at the Moulin Rouge include Ella Fitzgerald, Elton John, and Frank Sinatra
-The title of a 2001 film starring Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman
-The French can-can is still performed at the cabaret today
-The origin of the ‘striptease’ has been traced back to the Moulin Rouge
I think it would be such an experience to visit the Moulin Rouge! Wouldn’t it be fabulous? Check out the images above for some saucy inspiration!”

My husband & I actually stayed a few blocks from Moulin Rouge during one of our first trips to Paris. It’s actually considered the “red district” but we had no clue when we booked our hotel. Interesting characters and shops in that section of town. We checked out the next day and since then know the layout of Paris a bit better, LOL. Great post!

Pixie Drive-In, I saw that movie!! Didn’t you just love it?? Toulouse-Lautrec is my favorite artist! I was lucky enough to see a Lautrec art exhibit a few years ago, it was amazing!

Another fabulous post! I love this series. I have always wanted to go to the Moulin Rouge. It has always fascinated me, especially Toulouse-Lautrec’s art. I remember watching another movie on TCM one night years ago. It was also called Moulin Rouge, and it was all about Toulouse-Lautrec.

I’ve been to the Moulin Rouge in Paris and it’s such a fun historical visit . . . and what funny timing . . . my cousin is here in San Francisco for work, and last night I took him to dinner and jazz in our old red light district, full of bright neon marquees for strip clubs. haha!

Great post Julie! I’ve been there! It’s seedy and old, but so iconic and still glamorous. After the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Versailles, The Moulin Rouge was next on my list of places to visit. I hope you get to see it some day!
