6 Timeless Styles for Winter

December 17, 2018

Winter is here which can only mean one thing – it’s time for a wardrobe overhaul! Most of the time that means the summer clothes get packed away under the bed or in the attic before the bulkier winter clothes fill our wardrobes. That doesn’t always have to be the case, however. Here are some timeless styles that you’ll love in winter – and some mean you don’t have to change up your wardrobe much at all.

The layered look

No winter look is complete without at least several layers, right? Luckily, I love the layered look, and when it’s done right, it can look amazing. You have to consider what kind of layers you’re putting on, to make sure you don’t seem bulky. If everything is really padded out, you might look a bit like you’re about to go on an expedition to the North Pole. Opt for thinner layers that will still keep you warm, but won’t make you seem 20 pounds heavier.

Glitter and sequins

Winter is the perfect time to get the glitter and sequins out! Actually, I found a gorgeous sequin silk dress in Anthropologie recently which would be perfect for any office Christmas party. It really is party season, which means that glitter and sequins are timeless in winter. If there is any season you’re going to get away with dressing like a human disco ball, it’s this one. Embrace the sparkle.

Pants and shirts

If you’re used to wearing skirts or dresses during the warmer months, then it may be time to get used to the pants and shirt combo. This doesn’t have to be dull and drab, just because it’s winter, however. Play around with different pattern and color combos when it comes to pants and shirts – checks are big this season (think the ‘90s and Clueless). Roberto Cavalli seems to be dominating the pants game at the moment, with loads of straight-legged designs in a range of colors and patterns.

From summer to winter

For those who don’t want to ditch all of their summer clothes as soon as the weather gets colder, never fear! I actually quite like turning my summer outfits into winter ones, with a few very clever touches. Pantyhose are a must, as you definitely don’t want to catch a chill. Add in some of those lighter layers we spoke about earlier, and you’ve created a winter outfit. No new wardrobe required!

All about the boots

No one should be walking around in dolly shoes at this time of year unless they want frostbite. Put away those flats and opt for some chunky boots instead. Invest in a good quality pair that will last you year after year, even if you spend the next three months traipsing about in the snow. Get one pair of flat boots, one pair of cute ankle boots, and one pair of higher boots for evenings. Winter is all about the boots.

Accessorizing

The last timeless style you’re going to want to work with in winter is simple accessorizing. As it’s the season of parties, you can go a little bit more wild with the accessories for your winter wardrobe. This will also help brighten up any drab outfits – why do we all wear such dark colors in winter? Look for bright bags, killer heels, and sparkly jewelry to bring your winter wardrobe to life.

So there we have it – six timeless styles that are perfect in winter. You don’t need to buy a whole new wardrobe of clothes to make them work for you either…unless you want to, of course.

Do you have any others to add to the list? Drop them in the comments!

Inspiration & Blessings

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.

Psalm 37:7-9
