I’ve loved Hello Kitty since I was a kid. To this day, I can’t seem to pass a Sanrio store without wanting everything in it. Like the clerk at the store today said, “It’s probably because as a kid, you wanted everything in here and couldn’t have it, and now as an adult you can buy all of it.” So true. I bought a sleeve for my MacBook Pro today and want the darling Hello Kitty beach cruiser.
Hello Kitty first came to the U.S. in 1976. “Hello Kitty (ハローキティ, Harō Kiti?), is a fictional character produced by the Japanese company Sanrio, first designed by Yuko Shimizu. The character is a staple of the kawaii segment of Japanese popular culture. The character is portrayed as a female white Japanese bobtail cat with a red bow.”
MAC Cosmetics even did a Hello Kitty collection a few years back, when I worked for them that sold out faster than we could believe!
What are your memories of Hello Kitty? Do you still love her?
I am SO glad you posted this precious little obsession to Fabulous Friday last week. I have loved keeping up w/ your blog ever since I found you. I used to have tons of Hello Kitty pencils, erasers, a stuffed animal, etc that I could talk my parents into buying me. Miss little miss kitty, ha. Have a great 4th & hope to see you back this week for another Fab Friday!

I Love Hello Kitty! I went to Selfridges lately and they had a whole Hello Kitty section, I spent ages looking at all the goodies! Hello Kitty stuff is so much fun! Lovely post! xxx
I LOVED Hello Kitty as a child. But even more I loved the “Little Twin Stars” that stuff was so hard to get where I lived and my Mom’s friend who lived in Chicago would always bring me treats. Once it was a Hello Kitty eraser and Little Twin Stars teeny tiny colored pencil set.
I was in heaven.
Yes, I’m still loving Hello Kitty!! Every time I go to Asia I buy more – a much much better selection than here in Australia. Last trip I got 2 pairs of hello kitty pjs in lady size!! 🙂 Yipee
Hello Kitty rules!!!
I do and did love Hello Kitty! I crack up when I see Kimora wear quite a bit of her! I still remember losing a hello kitty doll when I was little, I was CRUSHED and furious. I am glad I didn’t go to that store with you, I would’ve bought the store out too.

I have a ‘thing’ for hello kitty more because I love Japanese cutsie stuff rater than wanting it as a kid however the store assistant’s right in that I now buy things that I couldn’t have as a kid for MY kids, lol! Most of their toys are a little 80s retro. lol! 🙂
Oh my gosh, I am so glad someone else (who is over the age of 10) shares my love for Hello Kitty! Seriously, what is it about her?! This is such a cute post, Kori!
