Legends of the Fall

December 13, 2009

Happy Sunday friends! So Legends of the Fall was on TV today and since it is one of my favorite films, I will give you some trivia! If you’ve never seen the film, you must. It is absolutely gorgeous, and a true epic. The story takes place in Montana around the early 1900’s through prohibition. Brad Pitt looks amazing and I wanted to name my child Tristan after his character!

Here are some fun facts:

–Johnny Depp was offered, and turned down, the role of Tristan Ludlow. (OMG really?)

–Neither Brad Pitt nor Julia Ormond had ridden before making this film.

–The title refers to the biblical fall from innocence. In Sweden, however, the title was translated as “Höstlegender” meaning Legends of the (season) Fall (as in autumn). Similarly, in South Korea, the title was “Gaeul-ui jeonseol” interpreting “the fall” as the autumn season.

–Originally conceived as a starring vehicle for Sean Connery and Tom Cruise.

–Both Samantha Mathis and Gwyneth Paltrow read for the role of Susannah.

–Moving filming from Montana to Canada saved the production $2 million.

–Calgary was chosen as the main filming location because of its dry weather. Naturally, once the production started there, they were met with record rainfalls.

Have a great day friends!

Yikes – so glad Samantha Mathis didn’t get it? She’s cute and perky and all…but Julia was perfectly elegant and crazy.

You’re not alone in your adoration of this wonderful film, I’ve loved it for many years, too (and distinctly remember crying the first time I saw, moved as I was by the sublime acting).

    Wonderful post, Kori, thank you!

    Oodles of hugs,

Inspiration & Blessings

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.

Psalm 37:7-9
