One of my favorite actresses is Sally Field. As a child I loved to watch Gidget, couldn’t take my eyes off her in the Smokey and the Bandit series, and find her still more beautiful every day.
It has been said that Burt Reynolds thought her as the only true love of his life. She was born in 1946 in Pasadena, California.
Her acting career began in 1965, when she landed the role of Frances Elizabeth ‘Gidget’ Lawrence in “Gidget” (1965), it was canceled after only one season because of bad ratings. She went on to star in “The Flying Nun” (1967), which ran for three seasons. She also appeared in her first film in 1967, The Way West (1967) opposite Kirk Douglas. In the next few years she appeared in numerous TV-movies and TV-shows such as Maybe I’ll Come Home in the Spring (1971) (TV), Marriage: Year One (1971) (TV), “The Girl with Something Extra” (1973), and Sybil (1976) (TV). In 1977 she starred alongside Burt Reynolds in the box office hit Smokey and the Bandit (1977), which led to a less successful sequel in 1980. In 1979 she starred in the popular film Norma Rae (1979) and she received her first Oscar for that role. If you’ve never seen Norma Rae, you have to check it out.
Sally is good friends with Goldie Hawn and a longtime friend of Pat Mitchell.
She auditioned for the role of Elaine Robinson in The Graduate (1967).
She dated Burt Reynolds for many years, but refused his numerous proposals, and they eventually broke up.
Have a great weekend friends!
Sally was a classmate of mine at Birmingham High School. Unfortunately, we only had gym class together.
But hey, at least I can say that I’ve gotten to shower naked in gym class with Sally Field.
I loved Sally Field first as Gidget too. Then in Smokey and the Bandit. She is so great in Sybil, and (of course) in Normae Rae.
She is AWESOME and the only reason I watch Brothers & Sisters – although it is jumping the shark with that stunt last night. sigh.
Come to my blog today to vote for my daughter in a holiday photo contest – Voting only 12.7 – 12/8 at 9am central!!!
Great post, great actress. The picture of her as Gidget is too cute.
I remember as a kid watching The Flying Nun. At that age, I didn’t appreciate her acting skills. I just liked the humor in the show, and of course the flying parts.
Now, I like her adult roles. I thought she was great in Mrs. Doubtfire.
Love her, she has been such a powerful woman figure in acting and she is so talented!
One of my favorites, too. Transistioned seamlessly from pixie cute to stunningly gorgeous, and looks nowhere near her age.
Bit of trivia: Sometimes television shows are forced to work an actress’s pregnancy into the storyline, but Sally Field’s pregnant belly definitely COULD NOT be shown: she was pregnant during the third season of The Flying Nun!
Hee Hee.. The Gidget years.. TOO CUTE!!
What a great actress with such a cute face too! x
Love her! Have you seen Absence of Malice with Paul Newman? <3
