Many of you know that I adore Snow White. I collect anything with her image on it, especially anything vintage or retro looking. I even have one of the songs from the film on my playlist! Every time I visit Disneyland I make sure to head over to the Snow White wishing well to make my wish. My fascination with Snow White started as a young girl. My mom said I would stand outside the ride, look up and see the Evil Queen, and start crying hysterically. I often have more interest in the Evil Queen than Snow White herself. How could I not? She is so gorgeous!
You might not know the story of the voice for Snow White. The film came out in 1937, making it Disney’s first full length feature. There were many actresses who auditioned for the role of Snow White, but none had the childlike quality that Walt was looking for.
Adriana Caselotti had been an opera singer. Her father worked for many people in the industry. Someone from Disney called to ask him if he knew of anyone who had a childlike voice who could sing. His daughter Adriana was listening in the extension and started speaking like a child. She got the audition and the rest is history! Check out these images of Adriana and the classic animated Snow White. Have a fantastic Friday!
What fascinating tidbits you find! Who couldn’t love Snow White, with her innocence and charm, her sweet and caring nature, and her longing for true love?
That Evil Queen, though…uh, nope. Pretty is as pretty does, and pretty did not the queen do.
I thought of you yesterday. I was perusing some local thrift shops and found a really cool snow white pop up book. The copyright says 1960 (it looks older though – snow white is not “disneyfied”…and it is inscribed (it was a gift) in 1963. It is so cool. I’ll take a photo! And it was $1.00!

I reread your post Heidi honey! I love the Adriana photos you found! Yet another thing we have in common! I had this post drafted since October when Disney passholders got emails showing Adriana as an adult being interviewed and waited until now to post it…I confess, I was fresh out of ideas on Friday, so went back to the edit posts vault lol! Have a great weekend honey! Kori xoxo
Did you read this by any chance? http://ketty-doll.blogspot.com/2009/11/i-used-to-be-snow-white-but-i-drifted.html
What delightfully lovely images, I’ve always been a fan of Snow White, too (once, believing that my pale skin would look great with dark locks alla Ms. White, I coloured them black. Sadly I didn’t look like snow white at all, the dark hue clashed with the pink tinge in my fair skin and I just ended up looking like I had a bad Halloween wig on. Needless to say I went back to red might fast and learned my lessen well! ;D)
Oodles of thanks for your excellent comments and for popping by to visit so often, sweetie – you’re so fantastic!

I’m a Cinderella gal myself. Something about the whole rags-to-riches thing that I wish I could relate to!

One of may favorites too. I have a vintage snow white bank with the dwarves (at least that’s my recollection)…must tell my mom to find it and I’ll snap a photo.

Haha. Love it. Disney movies were so much more dangerous back then. Who else remembers the crazy acid trip in Dumbo?! Cinderella was always my fave, but I think Snow White is a close second.
Hiya! I adore this movie. The rich colours the handpainted characters & backgrounds resultig in TRUE animation.NOTHING like it! The STORY, the music! Just love it! It’s so warming isn’t it?

What a nice trip down Snow White lane! She is a lovely character. My sister has pale skin and dark hair, so she gets told that she resembles Snow white quite often. I enjoy it:)
I actually played Snow White in a high school play and was perfect for it because my hair was in a black bob at the time and I’m very fair. Love her!
Oh I love Snow White as well! Have a great weekend love XOXO
