How to Accessorize a Bridal Outfit
Once your beloved has popped the question with a gorgeous diamond engagement ring from Ascot Diamonds, you need to start planning your wedding. There are hundreds of things to think about when planning a wedding, but since choosing the right wedding dress and accessories is likely to be high on the list, here is a quick guide to help you make the right decisions.
One of the first rules of accessorizing a bridal outfit is not to go too mad with the bling. Jewelry is an essential accessory for any bridal outfit, but if you walk down the aisle dripping in diamonds and sequins, there is a very real danger that your outfit will outshine you. Royalty can get away with it, but we mere mortals cannot.
Match the Outfit
The majority of brides opt for a traditional look on their wedding day. That is, a full length gown in white, cream or ivory. However, for those of you with different ideas, it doesn’t mean you need to forget about jewelry and other bridal accessories. Any outfit, from a pantsuit to a short tailored dress and jacket, will benefit from the right accessories.
Bridal Jewelry
Jewelry is the obvious accessory for any bride, but be careful to wear pieces that match the fabric of your dress. For example, if your dress is brilliant white, gold will look wrong, so stick to pearls and silver or platinum jewelry. Off-white fabrics work with most jewelry, but if you decide to wear an ivory gown, wear gold jewelry, as it will bring out the creamy tones of the fabric beautifully.
There are many styles of jewelry to choose from, but if you decide to wear a vintage wedding gown, consider accessorizing it with vintage jewelry. This is a great look if you have a few pieces of antique jewelry in the family, as you have something “old” covered straight away. Alternatively, don’t be afraid to combine old and new, i.e. a vintage wedding dress with a modern necklace, or vice versa.
On the whole ‘less is more’ theme, choose jewelry according to the dress you are planning to wear. An embellished dress works better with simple jewelry, as too much bling is distracting, but if your dress is very simple in design, you can afford to be more extravagant in your jewelry.
Wedding Shoes
Shoes are essential, for obvious reasons. If you are wearing a floor length dress, your shoes will be invisible, but if you go for a shorter dress, your shoes will be on show. Look for shoes that match the fabric of your dress or go with nude shoes. You can even have shoes made from the exact same fabric as your wedding dress for a very reasonable price. One thing to remember is heel height, i.e. do not buy high heels if you are not used to wearing them, or you will be in agony on the day.
Accessorize your wedding outfit with great care and if in doubt, keep it nice and simple.
