Today we begin our series on Vintage places we love. I have asked 5 of my favorite bloggers to help me out with this task, by guest posting. The first one is the lovely Francy of Pixie Drive-In. If you haven’t had the chance to check her out, you must head over to her lovely blog and tell her I sent you! Her current post is on the fab Elizabeth Taylor.
I asked my guests to tell me about one of their favorite vintage places and why they love it. Here’s what Francy had to say:
“A few years ago, I took my first and (so far) only trip to New York City. Like many Manhattan tourists, I composed a list of sights I wanted to experience. But one place stood above the rest. I wanted to see Tiffany’s.
The 5th Avenue Tiffany & Co., famous long before moviegoers watched Holly Golightly eat breakfast outside its glittering windows, remains a fascination and favorite vintage place of mine. Perhaps, like those early ‘60s viewers, my love began with Holly. Audrey Hepburn’s performance as a woman, who puts the jewelry store on a pedestal, convinced me Tiffany’s could somehow make me happy, or as Holly would say, rid me of the “mean reds.”
Tiffany’s magic increased when I read Marjorie Hart’s memoir, Summer at Tiffany. Marjorie worked as a Tiffany’s sales page during the summer of 1945. Along with this job, she writes about the adventure, love, and growing she experienced as a small-town college girl living in the big city. I read the book feverishly, and ate up her descriptions of summer romance, Tiffany’s uniforms, celebrity sightings, and on-the-job mishaps. She had one fabulous experience, and all because of Tiffany’s.
When I finally stood outside Tiffany’s, I felt the history. After all, I stood where Audrey Hepburn did. Excited, and surprisingly nervous, I approached the glass doors. When I entered, counters filled with sparkling jewelry too expensive for my budget greeted me. But no matter. I loved wandering through the aisles and bustling crowds, feeling as glamorous as Holly Golightly and as star-struck as Marjorie Hart.
The magic worked. Tiffany’s did provide something extraordinary. Everything I previously read and saw came alive, and I felt I became part of its history. Tiffany’s gave me an escape into pure enchantment, and an afternoon I will always hold precious.”
What an amazing post! Check out the pics!

I to went to Tiffany when I went to NYC. The wonderful thing about the store is the staff. They don’t mind dealing with tourists and were very nice when I was “just looking”.
I’ve also read SUMMER AT TIFFANY and it’s a sweet, wonderful read!
