As some of you know I’m on vacation, and it’s officially day 2. So, while having my coffee this morning and catching up on some blogs, I stumbled across a fabulous show called LA Frock Stars on the Smithsonian Channel. Why haven’t I seen or heard of this before? I’m obsessed. It’s exactly the outlet I’ve been looking for to educate me a bit more on vintage fashion and the possibility of some great finds. The show follows the employees and owner of The Way We Wore, a boutique in Los Angeles and has several high end clients including vintage queen Dita Von Teese.
I’m definitely planning a trip out to The Way We Wore, but for those of you who are looking for some vintage finds and don’t know where to look, I wanted to point you in the right direction. Locally, closer to me in Orange, CA is a great little gem called Elsewhere Vintage. The shop is located in old town Orange, surrounded by adorable antique stores and cute little cafes.
If you’re not a big shopper and prefer to locate vintage pieces via your home computer, sites like ModCloth offer a vintage department option for you! You’ll have to enter your email address and set up a password in order to get access to this part of the site, but I think it’s well worth it, especially when they post at least one new find everyday. They also showcase vintage kitchen and household items.
If you’d rather see several vendors in one place, there are several expos and shows you can attend. One of these, The Vintage Fashion Expo in Los Angeles just took place in May, but is coming up again in October.
Another great show that occurs fairly regularly is The Vintage Clothing and Textile Show in Burbank, CA. This one will be taking place again on June 29th and August 31st. There’s even some discount tickets on Groupon for the show!
Well, what are you waiting for? Get shopping, and please pass along any info regarding vintage clothing and housewares events, shows, fleas, expos, stores, etc! Have a great Friday!
