So, as you know, Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and hopefully you have a sweetheart to celebrate with. If you don’t, why not have a romantic comedy movie marathon? One of my favorite romantic comedies is How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) with Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson. It’s too funny and your guy won’t mind watching it with you either! Here’s some fun trivia to get you interested. Have a great Wednesday!
–Kate Hudson improvised plastering Matthew McConaughey with kisses during the scene where she introduces the new dog. This is why McConaughey looks genuinely surprised.
–A lot of the scenes were improvised e.g. the scene with the “family album”.
–Much of the scene where Andie crashes Ben’s “boy’s night” was improvised. Kate Hudson had the idea to toss the platter of veggies at the guys seated at the poker table. Donald Petrie, the director, knew she was going to do this, the actors in the scene were truly surprised.
–There were an estimated $14,200,000 worth of jewels lent to the film.
–Andi’s friends, Michele and Jeannie, are named after the authors of the book: Michele Alexander and Jeannie Long.
–Andie wears a Harry Winston diamond wreath necklace with an 84-carat yellow diamond pendant (called the “Isadora”) attached, valued at approximately $5,280,000 and a pair of 5-carat radiant cut yellow diamond stud earrings worth approximately $125,000.
–Katherine Heigl is one of the models on the covers of a “Composure Magazine” during the sequence of magazine covers at the beginning
–The dress Andie wears to the Warren Advertising gala was designed around the 84-carat yellow diamond pendant which she wears at the gala. It was designed by fashion designer, Dina Bar-el, not the film’s costume designer, Karen Patch.
–Lana’s dress at the Warren Advertising gala is by Chanel, and her diamond tiara is real.
–The filmmakers used a loft in SoHo New York City, NY for Ben’s apartment.
–The name, style and content of Composure Magazine all make it a dead ringer for Cosmopolitan Magazine.
–The motorcycle used by Matthew McConaughey is a Triumph Bonneville.
–The film marks the acting reunion of Adam Goldberg and Matthew McConaughey who had last appeared together 10 years earlier in the iconic Dazed and Confused (1993).
–When Ben is shown the article that Andie wrote, the style and format changes. When the article is first seen, it is completely formatted in blue. When we see it from Ben’s point of view, the style changes, with a broken love heart taking up the majority of the page. The font also changes.
–The Alexander Hamilton U.S. Customs House, in the financial district of New York City, NY was used for the Astor Museum of Art, where the Warren Advertising Agency hosts a gala in honor of the DeLauers.
–The basketball footage features the Sacramento Kings and the New York Knicks.
–Gwyneth Paltrow was originally going to star.
